Profiles

An odd thing I noticed about myself a year or two ago:  My gaze is split.

Let me illustrate.

I’ve been using this image for the D5GW blog:

— and I’ve been struck by how the two halves of my photo, centering on the eyes, give two different impressions. I had a different “web image” once, although taken from a similar angle, which occasioned a common comment from various people: You look angry! That observation prompted me to take a closer look.  Like that photo, this photo has a kind of rigid, focused stare on the left half:

Actually, it doesn’t look angry, to me, just focused, staring right at the camera. I never thought the other photo was “angry,” either, although others did. Perhaps I only ever focused on the right side before:

That side seems more relaxed, more open.  How odd.  The left seems older than the right.  Well, I’ve thought that this split sums up much about me.  Go figure.
