veiled4allah
I have wanted to blog about a weblog I discovered a month or so ago, veiled4allah, which, imo, ought to be read by non-Muslims who want a broader picture of Islam. The blog is maintained by Al-Muhajabah, who also has a very useful blog filled with Movable Type tips, particularly plug-in tips; but veild4allah is where the better information is posted: take for example a recent entry, Does the Quran really command killing unbelievers? The entry contains things I have said, in contrast to some of my blogging friends, about Islam. Reading veiled4allah might reveal to my conservative and libertarian friends the fact that not all Muslims are crazed murderers and that Islam is—or, can be—a peaceful, God-loving religion. The submission in Islam means placing much in Allah’s hands and letting Allah decide the fate of non-believers. Allah is all-powerful and all-knowing; Allah will handle it.
I am not a Muslim, but I’ve read the Qur’an, and even I can see that context is important, just as it is for the Bible’s Old Testament, when it comes to the subjects of waging war and dealing with unbelievers.
